The original Barnes Forest Preserve is an elongated rectangle north of the BN railroad on the East side of Barnes Road to the middle of Blackberry Creek excepting a 2 acre church parcel. There is a thin belt of native vegetation along the water s edge and several trees and shrubs around the houses and barn at the northern edge of the property occupying about 3 acres. A 129 acre addition follows the creek and wetlands on the south side of Prairie. The remaining 30 acres are in crop rows. This 34 acre property was purchased in 1995.
