There is over 300 acres of wetland in this complex. Pingree Grove is a magnificent marsh and woodland as part of the extensive headwaters of Tyler Creek. It contains rich fen edges, prairie and wooded shorelines, Bur Oak-covered islands and peninsulas, and isolated wetland pockets each with a different high quality plant community. It is home to Great Blue Herons and nesting Sand Hill Cranes, and a host of fine wetland birds, also a popular visiting spot for the endangered yellow-headed Blackbird and the American Bittern.
