white oak School Programs / Field Trips

The Forest Preserve District offers a variety of hands-on environmental education programs in which students will explore and experience the natural wonders of Kane County. We offer two types of programs for schools – outdoor field trips and traveling naturalist programs.  Field trips can be conducted at any of the county’s forest preserves throughout the year. Traveling naturalist programs are typically done during the winter months.  For these programs, we will visit your school and present an indoor presentation. There is no charge for either of these programs for Kane County schools.  For out-of-county schools, there is a fee of $25 per class. Preschools are charged at the community group rate of $2 per child with a minimum of $20; please see the Scouts/Group Programs section for additional information.

You can download the Nature Education Programs brochure to view all programs that are offered along with their descriptions.

Schools are also encouraged to visit the forest preserves as self-guided groups.  Self-guided groups must contact the forest preserve at the number below to schedule your group. We have “discovery packs” for loan, which are filled with fun trail-side activities to do during a hike.  If you would like to request a discovery pack, please contact us.

Registration for the school year begins the third Monday of August.  For more information or to schedule a program, please call (847) 741-8350 or e-mail programs@kaneforest.

If anyone in the group needs special accommodations to participate in a program, please let us know at the time of scheduling.
