Rules and Regulations

  • Alcohol

    No alcohol is allowed in the preserves. Alcohol may be sold by licensed vendors at the Events Center, Settlers Hill Golf Course and Hughes Creek Golf Course.

  • Fires

    Keep fires contained in the fireplaces, firerings, and grills. Discard or soak hot ashes before leaving.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is allowed only in designated areas. Individuals must possess a proper Illinois State Fishing License.

  • Hunting

    No hunting is allowed.

  • Motorized Vehicles

    The use of motorized vehicles such as ATVs and dirt bikes is strictly prohibited. Snowmobiling is limited to the Forest Preserves of Campton, Glenwood (on the Batavia Branch of the Illinois Prairie Path) Hampshire, Oakhurst and Rutland (on the Great Western Trail west of Wasco) - ONLY (see Winter Activities). All state and local regulations pertaining to the operation of snowmobiles apply. There must be a minimum of 4" of snow and the ground must be frozen for snowmobiling.

  • No Collecting

    Permission of the President is required before removing any item from District lands. This is to protect all plant and animal life.

  • Pets

    Pets are welcome in the preserves, but must be leashed at all times. This protects pets, visitors and native plants and animals. The only exception to this rule is found in two newly available areas for Dogs-Off-Leash. 1) The Fox River Bluff Forest Preserve, located at Route 31 and Red Gate Road in St. Charles totals 50 acres, and 2) Aurora West Forest Preserve, located on Hankes Road totals 496 acres. Both provide ideal settings for trained dog running where indicated. Dog owners are asked to clean-up after their pooches to keep the area clean for all users.

  • Swimming

    No swimming is permitted.

  • Trash and Recycling

    Help keep your forest preserves clean by using the trash and recycling containers provided.
