The Forest Preserve District offers a variety of hands-on environmental education programs for scouts and community groups, in which participants can explore and experience the natural wonders of Kane County. In addition to community group outreach programs, we offer general discovery hikes as well as badge-specific scout hikes at Kane County forest preserves.
For scout group programs, the fee is $40 for groups up to 20 people, and $60 for groups larger than 20 persons.
For community group field trips (within the Kane County forest preserves), the fee is $2 per person.
For community group outreach programs (at non-forest preserve locations), the fee is $25 per one-hour program at locations within Kane County, and $50 per one-hour program at sites located outside of Kane County.
Scout and community groups are also encouraged to visit the Kane County forest preserves as self-guided groups. We have "discovery packs" for loan, filled with fun, trail-side activities to complete during a hike. Self-guided groups must contact the Forest Preserve District to schedule your group visit.
If anyone in your group requires special accommodations to participate in a program, please let us know at least two weeks in advance by calling the environmental education manager at 630-444-3191.
